MCC Welcomes New PTK Members for 2026

Thirty-seven Montgomery Community College students were inducted into the college’s Beta Xi Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society on April 23rd. Family and friends were in attendance to celebrate the occasion. The purpose of PTK is to promote scholarship, the development of leadership and service, and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students. This year’s Inductees have worked hard to meet the eligibility for PTK, completing at least 12 semester hours of associate degree general education coursework with a grade point average of 3.5. Forestry Club Attends Annual Meet

On March 28 Montgomery Community College’s Forestry Club traveled to Haywood Community College in Clyde, NC for the 2026 Mid-Atlantic Woodsman’s Meet. Our students had a fantastic, safe experience, earning the following placements: 1st Place – Archery: Camden Brown 2nd Place – Archery: Ridge Meadows 1st Place – Compass and Pacing: Dan Herrman 3rd Place – Men’s Axe Throw: Nathan Dale 3rd Place – Tree Diameter Estimation: Adam Kimble 3rd Place – Women’s Crosscut Sawing: Alanna Gloster and AJ Abbott In addition, MCC’s Club had several fourth-place finishes, and the team placed fifth overall out of seven schools.

MCC Celebrates Day On With Meal-Packing

Montgomery Community College had the privilege of hosting its annual MLK Challenge Day — A Day On Instead of a Day Off, and what a meaningful day it was. Over 70 volunteers gathered at MCC to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision through an inspiring message from guest speaker Dr. Roseboro, MCS Superintendent. Volunteers then put that message into action by packaging 10,000 meals, all of which will stay right here in Montgomery County to support our neighbors facing food insecurity. MCC Competes in Cradle Competition 2025

The Montgomery Community College Forestry Club competed at the 35th Annual John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsman’s Meet, held at the Cradle of Forestry in the Pisgah National Forest. This year’s competition brought together forestry students from across the eastern United States, including Montgomery Community College, Haywood Community College, Penn State Mont Alto, North Carolina State University, Western Carolina University, West Virginia University and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The annual competition tests participants in a range of technical, physical and academic forestry skills. Events included precision sawing, dendrology, orienteering, log rolling, pole felling, and Quiz Bowl — all designed to showcase the teamwork, knowledge and field skills vital to future forestry

Groovin’ for Good Raises Money for Scholarships

Over 250 friends of the college were Groovin’ for Good, gathering at the Garner Center in Troy for MCC’s annual auction fundraiser on Friday, September 26th. Meal and refreshments were provided by Valerie Ingram, while the group enjoyed disco music provided by DJ Mann. Dusty Caviness and Kat McRae won the best costume contest. The event raised around $30,000 in funds for student scholarships! Tom and Susan Eggleston were winners of the evening’s $5,000 grand prize drawing. MCC Forestry Students Conduct Prescribed Burn

In early September, MCC Forestry students conducted a 16-acre prescribed burn in a forest stand set to be naturally regenerated with pine seedlings from existing overstory trees. The purpose of the burn was to remove leftover logging debris and reduce competing vegetation, creating the perfect conditions for new pine seedlings to take root.  Forest Management Technology students conduct at least two prescribed burns every year as part of the Forest Protection Course. Prescribed burns are carefully planned and only carried out under very specific weather conditions, such as the right wind speed, humidity, and temperature. MCC Recognizes its Annual Scholarship Recipients

On August 26th, around 60 Montgomery Community College students received financial awards from the very special people and organizations who endow scholarships at the College. Students and their donors were able to meet each other in person during a ceremony and post-event reception. One hundred eleven scholarships were awarded, totaling over $160,000. The evening began with the presentation of merit awards, which are scholarships based on a student’s performance in their program and recommendations from their instructors.  The next group of awards, in its third year, were scholarships awarded to continuing education students through an established endowed fund. MCC and SCC Partner to Expand Game Development

Montgomery Community College (MCC) and Stanly Community College (SCC) have signed an articulation agreement to expand educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in game development. This partnership allows students who complete MCC’s IT-Game and Simulation Certificate Program to seamlessly transfer their credits toward an associate in applied science degree in simulation and game development at SCC. Agreements like this provide students a clear pathway to further their education and career prospects in the dynamic and growing game development field. Leadership Montgomery Celebrates 30th Graduating Class!
