MCC Celebrates Day On With Meal-Packing

Montgomery Community College had the privilege of hosting its annual MLK Challenge Day — A Day On Instead of a Day Off, and what a meaningful day it was. Over 70 volunteers gathered at MCC to reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision through an inspiring message from guest speaker Dr. Roseboro, MCS Superintendent. Volunteers then put that message into action by packaging 10,000 meals, all of which will stay right here in Montgomery County to support our neighbors facing food insecurity. MCC Launches Gunsmithing Apprenticeship

Montgomery Community College has affirmed its commitment to providing hands-on learning opportunities that will meet workforce needs through employer-sponsored apprenticeships. The college was recently granted provisional approval to offer registered apprenticeships in collaboration with the US Dept. of Labor, ApprenticeshipNC, and the NC Community College System. The Registered apprenticeship program allows students to receive paid training while learning a skillset unique to a local employer. In turn, apprenticeships provide the host employer a pipeline of potential employees that have received training in the precise skills required by the company. The apprenticeship concept is the gold standard for work-based learning, combining hands-on training with classroom instruction, structured wage progression and nationally-recognized credentials.  The

Leadership Montgomery Celebrates 30th Graduating Class!

Judy Stevens, retired Chamber and Economic Development Director, discovered leadership programs being offered in other counties around North Carolina and wanted to implement a local program to generate awareness of the “Golden Opportunities” that exist in Montgomery County. “Leadership Montgomery” kicked off in the fall of 1994 with 29 participants representing private businesses, municipalities and service providers.  The class of 2025 celebrated its graduation on May 8th, and includes Alyvia Cooke, LFNC Fellow with Montgomery County; Ashley Culler, Montgomery County Public Utilities; Justin Hall, EPP Richmond County; Stacy King, Montgomery County Partnership for Children; Kristy Kissell, Communities in Schools; Madison Lynthacum, Montgomery County Schools; and Tiffany Ward, Montgomery County Department

Work Ethic = Success

Colin Bryant hails from Taylorsville, North Carolina located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Alexander County is a rural community with plenty of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and ample space to shoot guns. Colin’s grandfather, Patrick Bryant, after retiring as a flight deck Safety Chief aboard the USS Enterprise, became a gunsmith in Memphis, Tennessee. He made one of the first rifles Colin ever shot at age five. Colin continued his affinity for firearms through scouting where he learned the fundamentals of marksmanship and safety. After graduating from Alexander Central High School in 2019, Colin enrolled at Appalachian State University. For many reasons, Colin really struggled. He

Thousands of Meals Prepared at MLK “Day On” Event at MCC

Approximately 120 volunteers met at Montgomery Community College to package nearly 10,000 meals in a half-day of service on January 20, 2025. Volunteers from MCC (board, students, faculty and staff), Communities in Schools, 4-H, Youth Leadership Montgomery, Eckerd Connects, Montgomery County Schools staff, East Middle School, Montgomery County Early College and Troy Rotary participated in the 17th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. “Day On” Challenge.
