MCC Welcomes New Small Business Center Director

Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Sara Holden as its new Small Business Center (SBC) Director! Sara lives in the Asheboro area, joining MCC from Sandhills Community College where she held a similar role.

Sara’s background uniquely qualifies her to serve small business owners in Montgomery County, because she has started and operated numerous small businesses herself. In addition to being an Air Force Veteran with law enforcement experience, Sara has seen it all.

“I have experience in retail, hospitality, food service and small-scale sustainable agriculture, just to name a few areas,” explains Sara. “My entire family is entrepreneurial. It’s been a lot of work over the years, but it’s been very rewarding. We have succeeded (and failed) many times over, and it’s fun to share what I have learned with other budding entrepreneurs.”

Sara has just assumed her role at MCC’s SBC, and is spending her first months traveling Montgomery County getting to know area business owners and starting conversations about their needs.

“I can already tell, these folks are hungry for success and willing to work. They have good ideas, now it’s up to me to deliver support mechanisms to help them succeed.”

MCC’s Small Business Center, located in Blair Hall on the MCC Campus in Troy, will be sponsoring free best-in-class training experiences for entrepreneurs, including a Pinnacle Financial Partners Business Mastermind Series occurring this fall. In August, Table Top Media will be coming to the MCC campus to provide a comprehensive training on the Canva design platform. In late August, Mike Collins of “The Perfect Workday” is coming to Montgomery County and teaches two in person classes: The Best Small Business to Start Right Now! and Never Too Late: Starting a Small Business at 50+. See MCC’s Fall TrailGuide for a complete list of both in-person and online course options, arriving in home in early July. All classes are free, and designed to remove obstacles to starting a small business.

Contact Sara to discuss your new business ideas at 910-898-8682, or email her at holdens3847@montgomery.edu. Sara works to help guide budding entrepreneurs through all the steps of considering, planning, developing, opening, and operating a small business. In addition to exciting training opportunities mentioned earlier, Sara and her team provide counseling and access to helpful resources across the state of North Carolina.
