Budgeting For College

There are five main categories of expenses to think about when figuring out how much your college education is really going to cost: tuition and fees, books and supplies, housing and food, personal/Misc expenses, and transportation.

The cost of attendance as determined by the MCC Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs is found above under the blue Cost of Attendance link based on the academic year you plan to attend. Please note that these costs are projections based on full-time enrollment for two semesters. There are situations where each of your costs may be more or less depending on your specific situation (i.e., number of credit hours, certain curriculums, books and supplies needed, length of commute, etc.), but the intent is to help you plan for your costs while attending MCC.

Books and Supplies

Textbooks are available through the College’s virtual bookstore. The bookstore link is found on the home page of the MCC website. Depending on the program of study, students can expect to pay between $500 and $1200 for textbooks per term. Some programs require the student to purchase uniforms, tools, and/or supplies in addition to textbooks. These additional costs vary according to the program in which the student is enrolled. A list of required/needed items with approximate costs can be provided by the department of interest. Purchase is directly related to the College’s Policy of Ownership.

Policy of Ownership:  All projects produced by the student with institutional supplies, materials, tools, and equipment are the property of the College. However, students have the option of purchasing their own supplies, materials, and tools. The projects produced are then the personal property of the student, and the College will charge only for the institutional consumables used by the student in producing the project.

Housing and Food

Although housing and food are not available on MCC’s campus, you need to consider their costs when preparing for college. Whether you live at home with parents or relatives or live on your own, you will have meal costs. If you live on your own, you may also have rent or other housing expenses. This will vary depending on your situation. We have included an average based on the academic year for two full-time semesters.
