
Montgomery Community College is now partnering with the USCCA to offer approved firearms training and short-term gunsmithing courses. Classes are taught by nationally and internationally known gunsmiths and craftsmen who share their expertise in courses from basic to advanced techniques. Most classes combine a hands-on and lecture format and range from three days to two weeks in length.

Shooting / Self-Defense Courses
Level I Pistol Training
This course will focus on the fundamental techniques necessary for accurate handgun shooting. Topics will include proper grip, stance, sight alignment, and trigger control. Other topics such as drawing from a holster, performing magazine changes, and controlling recoil will be discussed at length. Instructor: Mark Dye

Red Dot Mastery Level I
This Red Dot Training course aims to help shooters, including those transitioning from iron sights, effectively utilize red dot sights (RDS) on handguns, covering topics like zeroing, grip, stance, drawing, tracking, and recoil management to improve accuracy and speed. Instructor: Mark Dye

Defensive Pistol/Carbine Course
This course will allow you to gain skills in pistol and carbine use for defensive action. You will learn to properly draw, engage and precisely shoot targets, re-holster your pistol, and maintain control of an active carbine. The course will begin with classroom instruction on the basic safety rules of firearms, proper methods of storage, and how to have a firearm ready, while secure and safe, in preparation for use. You will learn how to set up basic gear that allows you to carry a pistol, extra ammunition if desired, to set up a defensive type of pistol, to set up a defensive carbine and various products to use in your set ups. You will learn there are many ways to set up a defensive firearm and ways to make the equipment work for you and not against you. The class will then move to the MCC range and work on techniques learned in the classroom and each student will test their equipment during the practical shooting portion of this course. Comprehensive Concealed Carry is an intensive three-day course designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and legal training necessary to safely and responsibly carry a concealed handgun. This class fulfills the North Carolina Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) training requirements while also emphasizing practical marksmanship and real-world shooting skills. This course provides in-depth training on firearm safety, handgun operation, cleaning and maintenance, gear selection, and ammunition considerations. Students build accuracy and shooting effectiveness through structured dry-fire and live-fire training, perform malfunction drills and tactical reloads, learn bleeding control (tourniquets, chest seals, wound packing), and receive comprehensive legal training, concluding with qualification and certification.
Day 1 – Handgun Fundamentals & Marksmanship
The course begins with a thorough introduction to handguns, firearm safety, and the fundamentals of marksmanship. Students will learn proper grip, stance, sight alignment, trigger control, and safe handling practices in a structured classroom setting.
Day 2 – Live-Fire Training & Practical Application
Day two combines classroom instruction with hands-on range time. Students will apply marksmanship principles during live-fire exercises, focusing on accuracy, consistency, and safe gun handling. This day reinforces fundamentals while building confidence and practical shooting skills.
Day 3 – Legal Training & Qualification
The final day covers North Carolina concealed carry laws, use-of-force principles, legal responsibilities, and best practices for concealed carry. Students will complete the required legal instruction and testing necessary for the NC Concealed Handgun Permit.
Upon completion, participants will leave with:
- The required training certificate for the NC Concealed Handgun Permit
- A solid foundation in handgun safety and marksmanship
- Practical shooting experience and increased confidence with a handgun

Level I Tavor Armorer Course
This course is designed to familiarize Law Enforcement, Industry Professionals, and civilians in the basic maintenance, breakdown, and conversions for the Tavor SAR & X95. Students will attend 2 days of training for the SAR & X95. There are 2 types of certifications. “Certificate of Completion of the Tavor /X95 Armorers course” which would be for civilians who do not have FFL’s and “Certified Armorer” for personnel who possess a valid FFL. - As a participant you will be given a brief history on the design, features and operability of the Tavor models
- Your instructor will go over in detail field disassembly, reassembly, part identification and function checks as well as the principle of operation
- Left-to-Right & Right-to-Left Conversions will be taught, practiced, and tested
- Basic repairs for commonly broken parts
- 9mm Conversions will be taught, practiced, and tested on the SAR and X95
- In addition to the hands-on SAR and X95 tests, there will be a written exam at the end of the course
- Students will have access to discounts on IWI products and a discount on one weapon system
- *The student should arrive with a basic understating of gas operated, semi-automatic rifle systems and how they are field stripped. Not necessarily the Tavor, but any common system such as the AK or AR.

Zion-15/AR-15 Armorers Course
This course is designed to familiarize Law Enforcement, Industry Professionals, and civilians with the basic maintenance and complete disassembly of the Zion (AR15/M4) Z15 series rifle. This is a 1 day of training. There are 2 types of certifications. “Certificate of Completion of the Zion/AR15 Armorers course” is for civilians who do not have FFLs, and “Certified Armorer” for personnel who possess a valid FFL. - As a participant you will be given a detailed understanding of the M4/ Zion operating systems and the nuances of how these systems function with suppressors and various barrel lengths
- Participants will detail disassemble/reassemble all components of the Z15 rifle with an intimate understanding of the function and wear of each component as well as all torque specs for the weapon.
- Students will learn how to identify wear points and components that need to be replaced on the Zion (AR15) rifle system
