Top HVAC Student Recognized at MCC

Awards CTE Students

Malco Tools, Incorporated has presented Montgomery Community College’s top HVAC student with a tool kit. Student Akeem Parker tops this year’s class. Led by Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Technology Department Chair Ed Hinson, this year’s cohort is bright, talented, motivated and employable.

“In addition to choosing a growing, popular career area with ample employment opportunities, this recognition by Malco Tools demonstrates there are concrete rewards for doing great work,” explains Hinson. “Akeem has been such a capable student. He has a very bright future, and has been a good leader for our group.”

Malco Tools also donated hats and extended tool bits kits for all members of Hinson’s class.

The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Technology program is one of MCC’s most popular and flexible programs, offering an Associate Degree, Diploma, and several Certificates in a day program. MCC’s curriculum provides the basic knowledge to develop skills necessary to work with residential and light commercial HVAC systems.

Students learn mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, and safety. The program covers air conditioning, furnaces, heat pumps, tools, residential building codes, residential system sizing and advanced comfort systems.

Malco Tools, Inc, got its start in 1950 when Mark W. Keymer, a young steel supply salesman, decided to manufacture and market a pipe crimper he had invented for installing the “new” sheet metal ductwork used in forced air heating systems. Headquartered in Annadale, Minnesota, is one of the nation’s leading solution developers and manufacturers of “tools of the trade” for HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning), exterior remodeling, and fence and rail installation professionals.
