Myrick Selected for Advising Leadership Academy

Montgomery Community College is pleased to announce that Keri Myrick, Career & College Promise (CCP) Success & Retention Specialist and High School Liaison with Montgomery Central High School (MCHS), has been selected as a participant in the 2025-2026 North Carolina Advising Leadership Academy!

The Advising Leadership Academy provides an opportunity for student advisors to engage in professional development, connect with leaders across the state and prepare for future leadership opportunities in higher education. As one of 25 in this year’s cohort, Myrick intends to grow her leadership skills, collaborate with other advisors and make an impact on the MCC campus and the students she serves.

“There is so much we can learn from one another,” explains Myrick. “Whether your community college is large or small, we face very similar challenges, and I am looking forward to sharing ideas and discovering best practices among my class.”

Myrick’s Advising Leadership Academy cohort will meet several times in the coming academic year, tour community college campuses, complete an advising project and celebrate a group graduation in April of 2026.

Myrick estimates that student advising consumes over 50% of her job. She helps MCHS and other high school students get a jump-start on either their career and/or college paths while they are still in high school. The CCP Program is tuition-free, offering three pathways for students: college transfer, career and technical education and workforce/continuing education.

The students Myrick advises get a head-start on higher education, while trying their hand at college-level coursework in a comfortable setting close to home. Myrick helps her students explore colleges and careers by helping to select and enroll them in courses that match their interests so they can move quickly and confidently into the workforce or transition into their next higher education adventure smoothly and prepared!
