MCC Implements S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Program

Community Workforce Development

Brutonville Community Center in Candor will be the first of several sites to host Montgomery Community College’s S.T.E.P. Job Readiness Training program this summer through fall. The six-week program, which takes place in Candor July 12th through August 19th, aims to take participants from the initial technology setup needed for a job search, all the way through successful interviewing techniques. The Strive, Train, Earn, Prosper curriculum replaces the job search component as a condition of unemployment benefits, through a condensed, one-location, hassle-free learning experience.

Program participants will master six competencies during the program: Basic Computer Skills, Gateway to Employment, Resume/Cover Letter & Technical Awareness, Career Planning & Assessment, Economic Literacy and Employability Skills. At the end of the program, students will complete job applications, submit cover letters and resumes and work with NCWorks career advisors to identify appropriate employment opportunities matching their skills and competencies.

Montgomery County residents who are interested in the S.T.E.P program can register by calling 910-898-9677 or emailing Kay Russell at russellk@montgomery.edu.
