MCC Competes in Cradle Competition 2025

Awards Events Forestry Students

The Montgomery Community College Forestry Club competed at the 35th Annual John G. Palmer Intercollegiate Woodsman’s Meet, held at the Cradle of Forestry in the Pisgah National Forest. This year’s competition brought together forestry students from across the eastern United States, including Montgomery Community College, Haywood Community College, Penn State Mont Alto, North Carolina State University, Western Carolina University, West Virginia University and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

The annual competition tests participants in a range of technical, physical and academic forestry skills. Events included precision sawing, dendrology, orienteering, log rolling, pole felling, and Quiz Bowl — all designed to showcase the teamwork, knowledge and field skills vital to future forestry professionals.

MCC’s Forestry Club delivered an impressive performance across multiple events, earning some top honors and demonstrating the strength of its hands-on training program. The team’s results included:

First place honors in Orienteering went to Dan Herrman. First place in Archery went to Tristan Crowley.

Second place in Quiz Bowl went to Mark Knipp, Dan Herrman, Adam Kimble and Cody Haywood. Second place in Dendrology went to Mark Knipp and Dan Herrman. The Woodsman’s Meet is always a great opportunity for MCC students to test their skills against other top forestry programs and build connections in the forestry community. Our students worked hard to prepare, and their success reflects both their dedication and the quality of our forestry program.
