Blasting on the Central High School Site

Starting Monday, November 6 the construction crew for the Central High School will begin removing large quantities of rock from the hill behind Capel Hall (200). This will require several days of blasting. We expect blasting to take place on Mondays and Thursdays between 3:00 and 3:30. It is not a long process and we will be sending notifications of specific times as we know each day.

When blasting occurs you can expect;

1. Notifications to go out; a horn will sound prior to blasting and afterward to indicate all clear.
2. You can expect to feel tremors on campus. Our buildings have already been inspected and we anticipate no issues of safety.
3. The blasts occur about 30 feet under ground. There should be no visible explosion, but you may see some dust in the air.
4. During blasting we will be limiting access to the rear drive and parking lot so you may want to alter parking on those days if you typically leave between 3:00 and 3:30. There should be no concern about your vehicle, although you may hear a few car alarms go off.
5. Spectators will not be allowed near the site, so please stay clear.
