Need-Based Scholarships to Montgomery Community College:
The interest earned from the Montgomery Community College Foundation (MCCF) holdings is used to fund student scholarships. For the 2009-10 academic year, the MCCF has allocated $37,500 for need based scholarships. The scholarships are awarded to students with a recognized financial need, but who are ineligible for federal or state grants.
All students requesting financial aid should apply using the FAFSA application. The FAFSA application is free and can be completed online at or at the Montgomery Community College financial aid office.
The FAFSA application is used to apply for the federal Pell grant, the NC Community College Grant, the NC Student Incentive Grant, and the NC Educational Lottery Grant. Students eligible for these awards receive sufficient funds to cover the cost of tuition and book costs at Montgomery Community College. The financial aid office at Montgomery Community College will notify students of their eligibility, usually within three weeks of the successful completion of the FAFSA application.
Students are eligible for MCC Institutional scholarships covering tuition, fees and book costs if the following eligibility requirements are met:
- Have a recognized unmet financial need: determined by a FAFSA score of between 5001-7900.
- Meet the minimum academic standards determined by the US Department of Education.
- Enrolled in a diploma or degree program at Montgomery Community College.
- Maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
- Complete 75% of the courses for which they are enrolled while receiving scholarship assistance.
- Not receiving other forms of financial assistance equal to, or greater than, the costs of their tuition and book charges.
- Selected applicants must attend an awards ceremony held on the night prior to fall registration.
The Montgomery Community College financial aid office will notify students of their eligibility to receive institutional need-based scholarships when they complete the FAFSA application. Students who fall within the eligible range for financial assistance, and who meet the academic requirements, are awarded scholarships on a first come-first served basis. The FAFSA application for the 2010-11 academic year is available beginning January 1, 2010 and can be accessed online 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Students are encouraged to apply early for financial aid. Please allow three weeks for processing of the application.
