Objectives: Med Assist Instructor will provide instruction in a clear and interesting manner. The instructor will utilize a variety of teaching methods that meet the needs of the adult leaner resulting in a 25% overall increase in student TPO and tests grades for all competencies taught. |
Action Plan:
- Instructor will attend conferences and workshops related to improving the instructor’s ability to present information clearly and consistently.
- The instructor will utilize a variety of techniques in the classroom that will enhance student’s comprehension and retention of critical information presented.

Assessment Outcomes: Instructor has not (as of this writing) attended any seminars or workshops of any kind. She has been scheduled and encouraged to attend the NCSMA annual conference in April. Medical Assisting Program Head is working closely with the instructor to help her incorporate a variety of teaching techniques in the classroom. Students’ evaluation of the instructor continues to be monitored closely as are student TPOs. |

Objectives: Medical Assisting Program Head will pursue grant funding in order to obtain BS/BA degree in Health Care Management/Administration or related medical field thereby expanding the instructor’s knowledge base for classroom instruction of medical management/administration, and by example, create student awareness of the importance of continuing professional development and life-long learning. |
Action Plan: Search health care grants for currently certified allied health instructors seeking higher education. |
Assessment Strategy: Attainment and implementation of grant. |
Assessment Outcomes: Unable to find and acquire grant. Many other options have been explored but have not been implemented as of this writing. |

Objectives: Improve student attrition rate to reflect acceptable percentages as outlined by AAMA accreditation threshold. |
Action Plan: Decrease attrition rate to 50% by developing criteria to retain “at risk” students. Develop and utilize criteria to recruit highly qualified students. |

Assessment Outcomes: Implementation of new admission criteria approved effective August 2008. Open house and orientation completed in October 2007. Orientation for new students will be a requirement for all new students with the implementation of new admission criteria. Effective November 2007 the AAMA CRB increased the retention threshold from 50% to 70% for all accredited programs. MCC’s five year retention rate is 64.5% which satisfies the previous threshold of 50%, but not the new threshold of 70%. |
Use of Results: Continue to monitor for compliance with AAMA CRB standards. |

- Explore and evaluate “pre-built” courses of text book publishers currently utilized for seated medical assisting courses.
- Request assistance and advice from IT department for the formation and implementation of courses.
- Evaluate practicability of AAMA competency assessment when offering particular medical assisting courses through distance learning.

- Promote student awareness and understanding of proper clinical procedural techniques through immediate instructor feedback and self critique of video performance.

- When implementing new clinical techniques, provide students with early recognition of repeated behaviors, both favorable and unfavorable.
- Provide students instant feedback during instruction.
- Improve student understanding of TPO (Terminal Performance Objective) assessment.
