Assessment Outcomes:
- Visited Arrowmont School of Crafts in May 2008. I observed a gallery exhibition of instructor and guest artist works of clay and other media.
- Attended a Clyde Gobble workshop in June 2008 here at MCC. Workshop subject was functional forms that are selling in today’s current market.

Program Goal: Recruit new students interested in a career in clay. |
Objectives: Develop a marketing strategy that will reveal the essence of the pottery program and ensure level enrollment consistent with previous year. |
Action Plan:
- Printing and distributing brochures to prime areas locally and nationally.
- Conduct at least one workshop of interest to all levels of clay students.
- Participate in a prime pottery show for recruitment purposes.
- Assistance in the Ashley Albright Scholarship Fund.

- Maintain a mailing list of interested prospects from a sign-up at shows.
- Survey workshop participants on future offerings in seminars.
- Work with PIO in marketing to advertise in magazines and local newspapers.
- Assess amount of scholarship money provided by fund.

Assessment Outcomes:
- Distributed brochures: to pottery shops, restaurants in Westmoore and Seagrove and all prospective students that seek information from the school. Brochures are also sent to various shows with current and former students for distribution including the North Carolina State Fair. The pottery club also distributes brochures at Spring Fest in Southern Pines, April 2008.
- A workshop conducted by Clyde Gobble was hosted here at MCC in June 2008. The workshop was attended by 25 participants.
- Pottery club members participated in Spring Fest in Southern Pines and Spring Fling at MCC in an effort to promote the program.
- The Ashley Albright Auction was held in May 2008. The program also was instrumental in aiding with calendar sales, poster sales, print sales as well as the auction. To date the Ashley Albright foundation has $85,000 dollars for the scholarship endowment to MCC pottery.

Use of Results: The mailing list for prospects and workshops has grown since Spring Fest. The program has been marketed to areas where prospective students interested in clay would frequent. Funds are available for students needing financial aid to participate in the program. |

Objectives: Replace at least one piece of large equipment annually |
Action Plan:
- Check out the cost of purchasing four Brent CXC pottery wheels.
- Renovate the salt kiln.
- Design and build a combination wood/gas fired kiln with a kiln shed.

Assessment Outcomes:
- Four new Brent wheels were purchased in 2008.
- Partial supplies for the salt kiln renovation were purchased in 2008, approximately $2500 for bricks. These bricks are being stockpiled until further funds are available.
- Funding was not available to build the wood/gas combination kiln or the shed for it in 2008.

Use of Results: Four worn wheels were replaced thus bringing the needed student equipment up to date. The renovation of the salt kiln is getting closer to being accomplished so that this valuable firing method can continue to be available to the students. |
