Description: This course introduces the use of indoor and outdoor physical activities to promote the physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development of children. Topics include the role of active play, development of play skills, playground design, selection of safe equipment, and materials and surfacing for active play. Upon completion, students should be able to discuss the stages of play, the role of teachers in play, and the design of appropriate active play areas and activities.
