College Courses for High School Students

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND PARENT/GUARDIAN:

It is truly an exciting time for Montgomery County high school students as they are now eligible to take college-level courses through a joint agreement between Montgomery Community College (MCC) and Montgomery County Schools (MCS). These classes are offered as either Huskins classes; Dual-Enrollment classes; or Learn & Earn classes. Information about each of the program requirements is outlined below. Please review this information carefully to make sure you understand the differences between each program. If you have questions about which classes you are approved to take, please consult with your high school guidance counselor and principal.

Learn & Earn Class Guidelines:

  • Offered to high school students in grades 9-12;
  • FREE tuition, fees, and textbooks;
  • Students are seated in class on their high school campus;
  • Requires approval from high school principal and parent/guardian on an MCC Trial Schedule;
  • A special calendar is in place for Learn & Earn classes; a copy is issued with your Registration Form.
  • When you receive your official Registration Form back from MCC,an enclosed sheet will explain how to officially log in to your online course.

Huskins Class Guidelines:

  • Offered to high school students grades 9-12;
  • FREE tuition and fees; however, students must purchase textbooks;

Dual-Enrollment Class Guidelines:

  • Offered to high school students age 16 or older;
  • FREE tuition; however, students must pay fees and purchase textbooks;
  • Class is located on the MCC campus (or special off-campus site or Internet);
  • Requires a letter of permission from your high school principal;
  • Students follow the MCC Academic Calendar.
Dual enrollment classes can be any MCC curriculum course. It can be a night class, weekend class, internet class or hybrid class. The Curriculum Class Schedule is available on our website (www.montgomery.edu); select the “Academics” menu and click on “Course Schedule” to choose the desired class.

Regardless of which program you choose,

  • MCC reserves the right to cancel any course that has insufficient enrollment. When possible, students will be given the opportunity to register for another course as appropriate;
  • Each student taking online or internet courses MUST ATTEND DISTANCE LEARNING ORIENTATION; and
  • Student PHOTO IDs are issued in the Library on the MCC campus anytime Monday through Thursday from 8 am – 3 pm and 5 – 7 pm (other times by appointment).  You must present your copy of your Registration Form to have your Photo ID made.
