A.A. Degree
The Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees shall be granted for planned programs of study consisting of a minimum of 64 and a maximum of 65 semester hours of college transfer courses. (Ref. 23 NCAC 2E.0204) Within each of these degree programs, the insititution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic use of computers.
Courses are approved for transfer through the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. Community college graduates who have earned 64 semester hours of academic credit in approved transfer courses with a grade of "C" or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale will receive at least 64 semester hours of academic credit upon admission to a university. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions. Courses offered through bilateral agreements may not transfer to all receiving institutions.
Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Associate in Arts program, graduates should be able to:
- Identify, apply, and continue to acquire the knowledge and skills that are central to a variety of academic disciplines including the unifying concepts and perspectives of these disciplines;
- Recognize and appreciate how different communities of scholars acquire and validate knowledge;
- Communicate information to a variety of audiences using appropriate written, spoken and/or visual methods;
- Use the perspectives and underlying concepts of a variety of academic disciplines to analyze issues encountered inside and outside the classroom;
- Solve problems and make decisions by using reason and creativity when confronted with new situations; and
- Recognize and appreciate the importance of the systematic acquisition and analysis of knowledge as the keystone of life.
